Where to find us
The Minster Library is located within the old medieval walls of the city and a very short walk away from St. William's College and York Minster itself. The easiest way to find the Library is by passing the Minster's west doors into Dean's Park and following the pathway by the Archbishop's Palace ruins, today a World War II memorial.

Should you travel by car, the nearest Council Car Parks are located in Bootham Row and Monkbar, a five-minute walk from the library. For more information, please consult the York City Council website.
First Travel Group operates the bus service in the city. Click here for a map of the City Centre including bus routes (PDF document).
For visitors travelling from cities near York, the Yorkshire Coastliner offers frequent bus links with Tadcaster, Malton, Scarborough and Whitby.
National Rail coordinates the train services to the city of York from different areas of Yorkshire and further.

The library's website offers the possibility to renew books and make reservations of Special Collections material. Please note that we require 24-hours' notice when requesting material hold in the Yorkshire Collections and the Old Library.

Contact the Department of Archives and Manuscripts
The Department of Archives and Manuscripts is located in the Minster Library. The department takes readers by appointment on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. To arrange an appointment, please contact the Archivist.
