Development Campaign Funding
It is important to understand that costings are inevitably approximate and that unforeseen difficulties can arise in a project of this magnitude. The glass conservation, in particular, is problematic, as the cost of repairing each panel of the Great East Window (and there are 117 excluding the tracery) will depend on its condition and on the degree of intervention thought appropriate.
The duration of the East Front Project is unlikely to be less than ten years. This figure is arrived at, by taking into account the time taken to complete the comparable work on the West Front.
In addition to work on the fabric of the Minster the Development Campaign is seeking to secure the future for three areas of the Minster's life: the Choir; the Library and Archives; the Centre for School Visits.
Cost of Music and Education
The choral services of the Minster: £414,392
The Library and Archives: £203,678
The Centre for School Visits: £74,472
Annual expenditure on music and education £692,542
Our aim is to provide an endowment fund of £6,000,000 to assist in the provision of music and education
Cost of the East Front and other Conservation & Repair Projects
The East Front stonework £9,890,000
The Great East Window £6,030,000
Chapter House buttresses 4, 5 & 6 £2,370,000
Other stonework £1,040,000
Other glazing work £400,000
Estimated total of fabric work £22,730,000
Our aim is to raise £30,000,000 over the next ten years to pay for the East Front Project, other stone and glass works, and to provide the endowment fund for music and education
